Elevated Comfort: A Primary Suite Retreat in the Attic

Project Description

This project transformed a finished attic into a primary suite by adding a fully functional bathroom, creatively overcoming the challenges of working within a confined footprint. The remodel was thoughtfully phased—first creating the space, then completing the finishing touches to match the homeowners’ vision. Prior exterior improvements had laid the groundwork, including a new dormer with roofing and Alaskan yellow cedar siding carefully matched to the original home. The existing stairwell window and trim were salvaged and reinstalled in a central location, joined by a new window placed strategically above the shower to introduce natural light. The cosmetic remodel incorporated high-quality finishes and functional enhancements, such as a wood pocket door with opaque glass, a transom window above the vanity, a flush cedar plank shower ceiling, and custom cedar shelving and base trim. These elements were inspired by the home’s unique exterior and carried that character into the interior. Additional features included a new vanity, fixtures, mirror, glass shower enclosure, and coordinating bath accessories. A luxurious dual-shower system was installed, complete with two valves, opposing showerheads, and a handheld wand on a slide bar. The custom-tiled shower pan supported a striking herringbone surround, laid in a randomized color gradient that made the space feel one-of-a-kind. The result is a highly customized, thoughtfully integrated full bathroom that transformed a challenging attic layout into a beautiful, functional, and seamlessly blended primary suite.
